About the programme

The Bioinformatics Master of Science at Universität Hamburg applies methods from computer science to problems in the life sciences. High-throughput experiments in chemistry, biology, medicine and pharmacology produce huge amounts of data, and bioinformatics builds the software to prepare, evaluate and analyse it. Courses come from the Center for Bioinformatics and the biology, chemistry and informatics departments. You can specialise in genome informatics, structural bioinformatics and biomolecular modelling, cheminformatics and molecular design, or computational systems biology. The first semester evens out your background in the relevant basics. This two-year, research-oriented programme is taught in German and starts in winter. It suits graduates in computer science or a life science. Graduates can work in research and development, at software and database providers, and in biotech and pharmaceutical companies, or go on to a doctorate.

Specialization

The program offers the opportunity to specialize in four areas: -Genome informatics -Structural bioinformatics/biomolecular modeling -Cheminformatics / Algorithmic Molecular Design -Computational systems biology
