About the programme

Bioinformatics at Saarland University is a research-driven, four-semester Master of Science worth 120 ECTS, taught in English, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. It builds on a Bachelor's in bioinformatics and keeps direct ties to lab research at the university and in industry. The Center for Bioinformatics on campus brings together biologists, medical scientists, pharmacologists and computer scientists, and with about one instructor for every four students you meet current research early. On the life sciences side you cover genetics, drug research, virology, biotechnology and bioreaction engineering. On the informatics side you study data structures and algorithms, machine learning, computer graphics, database systems, artificial intelligence and software engineering, plus project management and patent law. A support programme lets strong students graduate early and start doctoral research. It suits graduates aiming for research and development in industry, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, or public research.
