About the programme
The master's programme in Biochemistry (Biochemie) at the University of Greifswald lasts four semesters, can start in the winter or summer semester, and is taught mainly in German, with English as a further language of instruction. Biochemistry deals with the chemical basis of life: how cells work, how biological molecules such as proteins, DNA, RNA and sugars are built and how they work together to control vital processes. The master's programme deepens your understanding of biological processes at the molecular level and prepares you for independent scientific work. Modern biochemical and molecular biology methods and current questions from research, medicine and biotechnology are at the centre. Modules include nucleic acids, protein structure and interactions, instrumental methods, metabolic biochemistry, immunology and bioinformatics. You specialise in a research area of your choice and learn to tackle complex questions experimentally. The degree prepares you for research, industry and development, or a doctorate.
