About the programme
Biochemistry at TUM in Garching is a full-time, four-semester Master of Science with 120 ECTS, with a start in the winter or the summer semester. German is the required language. As the chemistry of life, biochemistry links biology and chemistry, and bioinformatics plays a growing role in it. You study how cells and organisms are organised at the molecular level, including reaction mechanisms such as intracellular transport, cellular differentiation, signalling cascades and stress responses, and the molecular causes of disease, using methods from chemistry, molecular biology and physics. Besides your main subject you choose two minors, one in chemistry and one in biology, so you build an individual profile at the interface of chemistry, biology and medicine. The first three semesters cover required and elective modules plus general electives, and the Master's thesis follows in the fourth semester. Admission is through an aptitude assessment.
