About the programme

Physics at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is a two-year Master of Science worth 120 ECTS that can be studied entirely in English, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. It offers advanced training in selected fields of physics and room to specialise. In the first year you deepen the theoretical and experimental foundations and methods of physics through advanced courses in theoretical and experimental physics, lab courses and electives, focusing on fields such as condensed matter physics, astrophysics and astroparticle physics, optical sciences, physics in life sciences, theoretical physics, and quantum technologies. The second year is a research training phase with a Master's research project in experimental or theoretical physics, written up as a thesis and presented in a colloquium. It suits graduates in physics or a physics-related subject, such as astrophysics, biophysics or medical physics, who want to learn to do independent research.
