About the programme

Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere is an English-taught M.Sc. at the University of Cologne over 4 semesters with 120 credits, and you can start in the winter or summer semester. It studies the physics of the whole Earth system, from the core to space, and the atmosphere as a system of its own. When you apply you choose one of two focus areas. Geophysics covers the geophysics of the solar system, space physics, an advanced field course and electromagnetic exploration methods. Meteorology lets you pick four modules from clouds and precipitation, atmospheric dynamics and modelling, radiation, the atmospheric boundary layer and physical climatology. Both share prognostic and inverse modelling, and electives can also be taken at the partner university in Bonn. The first year is course-based and the second is research-based, ending with the Master's thesis.
