About the programme

Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management (SINReM) is a two-year, 120-ECTS Master of Science taught in English and run by Ghent University in Belgium (coordinator), TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Uppsala University in Sweden, with a joint degree from all three. It starts in the winter semester. The programme focuses on the innovative and sustainable production, extraction and management of primary and secondary resources, from mining, exploration and extraction to recovery and recycling technologies. In the first year you study together at Ghent, Freiberg and Uppsala, with courses on the circular economy, clean technology, resource recovery, the full process chain of rare resources, resource chemistry, and innovation and entrepreneurship. In the second year you choose a specialisation: circular societies in Ghent, georesource exploration or sustainable entrepreneurship in Uppsala, or sustainable processes in Freiberg. It suits engineering and science graduates aiming for research, consulting or a start-up in the raw materials sector.
