About the programme
The Master's in Mathematics at TUM is a full-time, four-semester programme with 120 ECTS, taught in English on the Garching campus, with a start in the summer or the winter semester. It gives you a lot of freedom to build your own academic profile: you can earn credits across many areas of mathematics and add supplementary modules from computer science, physics, chemistry, economics and other disciplines. Specialisation options include analysis and PDE, algebra and geometry, probability theory, numerical analysis and scientific computing, optimisation, and biomathematics and biostatistics, and you can add one or more minors. Interdisciplinary courses build soft skills such as public speaking, and the flexible structure lets you study abroad for one or two semesters at a TUM partner university. The Master's thesis in the fourth semester completes the programme. Mathematicians are in demand in software development, consulting, data security, medicine, communication and IT.

Discipline-specific requirements
To be accepted to the TUM master’s program in mathematics, applicants must have a qualified university degree in
- mathematics,
- physics or
- a comparable course of study that does not differ significantly in terms of the competencies acquired in the aforementioned bachelor's degree programs at TUM.
The equivalency and comparability of programs that are not listed will only be decided during the application process. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make any statements on this in advance.
Additionally, proof of suitable competencies is required, as listed on the checklist (opens in a new tab) to the extent indicated. If applicants fail to meet these requirements by only a narrow margin, they will receive a point deduction in the application procedure. In the initial stages, the grades you obtained during your bachelor's program, as well as your written documents, will be evaluated using a point system. Depending on the amount of points accumulated, applicants are either immediately admitted, rejected or invited to an admissions interview.
