About the programme

Mathematics in Data Science at TUM in Garching is a full-time, four-semester Master of Science with 120 ECTS, taught in English, with a start in the winter or the summer semester. It is for students who want a demanding mathematical education focused on data science and artificial intelligence. Data-driven technologies power developments from machine learning and autonomous vehicles to smart grids and medical diagnostics, and you learn to understand, develop and apply technologies for collecting, storing, analysing and securing large amounts of data. The focus is on methods and algorithms from statistics, machine learning, optimisation and the theory of data representation, along with concrete data analysis techniques. You build a deep understanding of mathematical methods for modelling very large data sets and for computing, simulating and predicting complex phenomena such as customer behaviour, economic development or medical diagnosis and therapy. Admission is through an aptitude assessment.
