Prerequisites
Admission to the degree programme requires a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, i.e. "Bsc. Mathematics", "Bsc. Business Mathematics", "Bsc. Industrial Mathematics", or a Bachelor's degree in another course of study with a sufficiently large mathematical orientation. As a rule, a degree programme has a sufficiently large mathematical orientation if a minimum of
- 18 credits in the field of "Analysis/Linear Algebra"
- 6 credits in the field of "Differential Equations"
- 9 credits in the field of "Numerical Analysis"
at a level comparable to that of an engineering course at the TU Berlin. In particular, this means that the following contents were covered in the individual areas:
_Analysis/Linear Algebra:_ Sets and Mappings; Induction; Real and Complex Numbers; Convergence of Series and Infinite Sequences; Differential Calculus of Scalar Functions: Mean Theorem, Higher-Order Derivatives, Extreme Values, Taylor Polynomial/Series; Integral Calculus of Scalar Functions: (in) Definite Integrals, Fourier Series; Differential Calculus for Multivariate Functions: Partial Derivatives, Higher-Order Derivatives, Extreme Values; Integral Calculus of Multivariate Functions: Contour Integrals, Integrals over Surfaces, Gauss and Stokes Theorem; Systems of Linear Equations and Gausselimination; Vector Spaces; Linear Mappings; Determinants and Eigenvalues.
_Differential Equations:_ Systems of Linear and Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations ( Existence, Unambiguity and Stability ), Linear Partial Differential Equations, Boundary Value and Eigenvalue Problem, Laplace Transformation
_Numerical Analysis:_ Floating-Point Numbers, Solving Linear and Nonlinear Systems of Equations, Sum of Least Squares, Polynomial Interpolation, Numerical Integration, Quadrature, Approximate Methods for Solving Ordinary Differential Equations
Proof of sufficient mathematical knowledge: Applicants without a bachelor's degree in mathematics are obliged to submit the following document (opens in a new tab) and thus prove competence in the above-mentioned areas.
In addition, the language level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) or equivalent must be proven for the English language. German language skills are not required. It is not possible to subsequently obtain and prove individual knowledge necessary for admission.
