About the programme

The Master of Science in Advanced Quantum Physics at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau gives you theoretical understanding and experimental expertise in modern quantum physics, with an emphasis on atomic, molecular and optical physics. Quantum physics is at the heart of today's technology, and its importance grows as devices approach the size of single atoms. The physics department is closely involved in research in this field, and all professors take part in several collaborative research centres in quantum physics, so you benefit from close contact between students and researchers. The programme starts in the winter or summer term. For a winter start, an orientation course begins on 1 August and lectures on 1 October; for a summer start, the orientation course begins on 1 March and lectures on 1 April. The page states that these dates are valid every year.

Prerequisites

  • For admission we require from the applicant's Bachelor's degree a comparable curriculum to the program of Bachelor of Science in physics at TU Kaiserslautern. From our experience, in most cases it is necessary to check:
  • quantum mechanics / quantum theory 1 (9 credits)
  • statistical mechanics / thermodynamics theory (9 credits)
  • experimental quantum physics (9 credits)
  • physics laboratory courses in mechanics, electrodynamics, optics (12 credits)
  • language requirements (see below)
  • Some special cases may allow to complete the requirements at TU Kaiserslautern (see below). Keep in mind, your overall time to complete the master program AQP will extend.
  • While we can ask you to complete some of the missing courses during your stay here, no more than 30 credits are allowed to be completed additionally.
