About the programme
Interdisciplinary Product Development (Interdisziplinäre Produktentwicklung) is an MSc at Reutlingen University's Faculty of Textiles (TEXOVERSUM) for graduates in textile technology, design with a materials background, engineering, chemistry, process engineering or computer science. You learn to combine your own knowledge and skills with those of other disciplines. In the first semester you take modules in four areas outside your own field, partly at other faculties, to build a shared foundation. The second semester is the core: you work in a team on an interdisciplinary development project based on current research projects, defining the problem together and testing product functions and usability in the faculty's large textile labs. In the third semester you show that you can solve a scientific problem on your own in your Master's thesis, which can continue the team project or be a separate one.
