About the programme

Photonics is an English-taught Master's at Münster University of Applied Sciences (FH Münster), on the Steinfurt campus. It takes 4 full-time semesters, starts in the winter semester and has no local admission restrictions. The programme covers photonics in its full breadth as engineering physics with a strong practical focus. You start with the foundations, such as theoretical optics, laser physics, wave and quantum optics and the finite element method, then move to developing optical systems, lasers and micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems, and to applications like industrial image processing, optical and laser metrology, microscopy and optical communications. Electives include photovoltaics, optical materials and nanotechnology. The final semester is your Master's thesis, in industry or in the university's labs. Classes and labs are small. Requirements include a B.Sc. or B.Eng. with sound knowledge of optics, for example in physics or electrical engineering, and English at B2.
