About the programme

The single-subject Master's in Geophysics at Kiel University (CAU) runs for 4 semesters. Teaching and exams are in English. Geophysics explores the Earth's interior and the space around it, studying the structure and formation of all levels of the lithosphere within the concept of global plate tectonics. You develop an understanding of the Earth's dynamics over geological time scales, so you can infer future developments and transfer insights to other planets. You apply geophysical methods to current environmental and climate questions, such as finding and managing mineral resources and groundwater and assessing natural hazards like earthquakes through seismology. Mathematical and numerical methods are essential, so computer-based processing and interpretation of measurement data takes up much of your training. You write the Master's thesis (30 credit points) in the fourth semester and present it in a research seminar.
