About the programme
The single-subject Master's in Chemistry at Kiel University (CAU) runs for 4 semesters and teaches what we and the world are made of and how substances change and transform. Teaching and exams are in English, though some electives may be taught in German. The programme is not aimed at a single specialised job. You first deepen your Bachelor's knowledge in the core subjects, then set a focus by choosing inorganic, organic, physical or theoretical chemistry and computational chemistry. In a second module you can specialise further, including in colloid chemistry and nanomaterials, materials science, biological chemistry, marine chemistry, toxicology or pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry. You learn the practical side in the lab and the theory in lectures and seminars, gain more experience in a research project, and write your Master's thesis in the fourth semester on a topic of your choice.
