About the programme

Communication Design is a German-taught Master of Arts (M.A.) at HAW Hamburg's Department of Design, on the Art and Media Campus at Finkenau. It takes 3 semesters full-time (part-time status is possible), and starts in the winter semester. It builds on a Bachelor's in communication design or a similar field and focuses on holistic thinking to create communication products that are both creative and socially responsible. The curriculum of projects, seminars and presentations covers brand design, editorial design, photography, interaction design, type design, typography and time-dependent media, and you can choose your own specialisation. You reflect on design theory and the role of designers in society through cooperative projects. Graduates work in management roles in design offices and advertising agencies, publishing, digital media, film production and photography, or freelance. To apply you first pass an artistic aptitude test with a portfolio. International applicants need German at C1.
