About the programme
The M.Sc. Civil Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen is a consecutive, research-oriented programme of 90 credits on the Essen campus, taught in German. It takes three semesters full-time or six part-time, with a start in the winter or summer semester. In three main areas of study, you gain in-depth knowledge through two to four modules each, covering theoretical foundations, scientific methods and their applications. You learn to expand your specialist knowledge, analyse and design processes holistically, question them critically, work scientifically on your own, and organise and manage more complex projects. The programme is also attractive for graduates of other universities, especially from abroad. A satisfactory master's degree qualifies you for a doctorate, and graduates can take on management roles in construction companies and engineering firms, work in the higher civil service, or set up as independent consulting engineers.
