About the programme

Biomedical Technology (Biomedizinische Technik) is a research-oriented Master of Science at Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM). The field researches and develops methods and systems for the early detection, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of disease, and works closely with medical research and industry. You deepen your knowledge of its methods and apply them to current research and development questions. Focus areas include biomedical systems and processes, signal and image processing, and functional materials. Modules cover biosignal acquisition and processing, biomedical materials, applied physiology and medical device design, a lab course, neuroprosthetics, numerical methods and statistics, and a project, with electives such as medical imaging, MRI, medical robotics and machine learning. A large share is independent research under supervision, and talks at conferences are encouraged. It lasts three semesters and starts in summer or winter.

Prerequisites

The prerequisite for admission to the master's programme is a completed diploma or bachelor's degree with a final grade of at least "good" (2.5 or better) in the field of biomedical engineering, medical physics, physics, electrical engineering or computer science. Furthermore, English language skills at level B1 of the common European reference framework must be proven. The examination regulations regulate the details.

Applicants who do not achieve the required overall grade for admission to the course can, upon application, take an aptitude test to determine whether they are suitable for the Master's programme.

Bachelor's graduates from Degree Courses with fewer than seven semesters can make up for missing knowledge by the end of the second semester, so that after completing the master's degree in "Biomedical Engineering" a corresponding total study volume of 300 credit points can be proven.

English-language version:

Basic German language skills at level A1 (or equivalently a German-language first university degree) must be proven. For the degree programme itself, English language skills at level B2 are required in order to actively participate in courses and scientific discussions.

German-language version:

English language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages must be proven in order to be able to understand English-language specialist literature. For foreign applicants who have obtained their first university degree in a non-German-speaking degree program: Proof of good German language skills (e.g. DSH-2, TestDaF with at least 4 points in each area).
