About the programme

The Master's in Civil Engineering at TUM in Munich is a full-time, four-semester programme with 120 ECTS, with a start in the winter or the summer semester. Depending on your focus area, you can study in German, English or both. It deepens what you learned in a Bachelor's in civil engineering or a related programme, and its core is your own choice of specialisation through in-depth electives. Options include construction, structural mechanics and physics, construction process management, computation in engineering, energy-efficient and sustainable building, foundation engineering and tunnel construction, timber, concrete and metal structures, hydromechanics, urban water and waste management, transportation planning and engineering, hydraulic engineering and materials. This flexibility lets you build an individual academic profile that suits the professional profiles of civil engineers. Graduates can handle complex tasks in their specialisation independently. Admission is through an aptitude assessment.

Prerequisites

Requirements

An application for the Master's degree programme in Civil Engineering requires a recognised Bachelor's degree from a university or university of applied sciences in Germany or abroad with a minimum duration of six semesters. Degrees in environmental engineering, civil engineering or an equivalent engineering course are accepted.

Admission is possible even if the final completion of the undergraduate degree programme has not yet taken place at the time of application. However, the final documents must be submitted by the time you enrol in the Master's programme.

Since the Master's degree programme in Civil Engineering is a hybrid Master's programme, in which parts of the overall programme can be taken either in German or English, sufficient language skills of either German or English must be proven.

GRE is optional

We may require additional documents depending on the type of secondary school diploma you earned and your country of origin (e.g. GRE, GATE, APS). After completing the online application process, you will receive a list of documents you must submit to TUM in hard copy by the application deadline.
