About the programme
Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University is a four-semester Master of Science worth 120 ECTS, taught in English, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. It gives equal weight to mathematics and informatics, building the solid understanding of both that many of today's problems need. The compulsory part is worth 42 credits: a 30-credit Master's thesis, completed within six months, and a 12-credit thesis seminar on a topic linked to your project. In the elective part, worth at least 78 credits, you choose from core lectures, advanced lectures and seminars in both subjects, plus practical training, tutoring, language and soft-skills courses or an industrial placement. It suits graduates aiming for the fields where mathematicians and computer scientists traditionally work, or for research and development, finance, e-commerce, automotive and mechanical engineering, health, pharmaceuticals or telecommunications.
