About the programme

Battery Systems Engineering is a full-time, English-taught M.Sc. at RWTH Aachen University over 4 semesters with 120 credits, starting in the winter semester, with a limited number of places. This research-oriented programme is dedicated to battery engineering and covers the whole battery value chain: battery modelling, electrical testing, post-mortem chemical analysis and recycling processes. You learn to develop electrical models for batteries, compare energy storage technologies, understand battery ageing and apply chemical and physical methods to evaluate cells and materials. Institutes from mechanical and electrical engineering, physics and mathematics teach in block modules, under the academic direction of the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA). Three semesters of courses are followed by the Master's thesis. It suits natural science or engineering graduates, and the German Engineering College is strongly recommended first.
