About the programme
Molecular and Medical Neuroscience is a two-year master's programme in biology at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau that can be started in April or October. It looks at the molecular mechanisms behind brain disorders such as neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric diseases and how they lead to brain dysfunction. The programme combines background knowledge with practical training in modern techniques, in a familiar atmosphere with close contact between students and faculty. You start experimenting early in the faculty labs, with access to methods in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and electrophysiology. The study plan includes interactive reading courses to analyse and discuss current research, three extended lab rotations to build technical and analytical skills, and a master's thesis in which you carry out independent research and present your results. Graduates are qualified for research in neurobiology and translational biomedical neuroscience, in academia or industry, or for a PhD.

At the beginning of your studies no knowledge of German is required (exception: CVT-program).
However, students who participate in an international Master have to acquire a basic knowledge of the German language. They are obligated to attend the German courses at the University of Kaiserslautern and pass the A1-level exam at TU Kaiserslautern within the first year of their studies. International master students, who prove their knowledge in German language with an A2- Goethe-certificate from abroad, not older than one year, can be exempted from passing the A1-level exam at TU Kaiserslautern.
By passing higher level exams, international master students can obtain ECTS credit points for their studies.
The ISGS offers an 'Orientation Course' at the beginning of your studies to improve your German language skills.
