About the programme

Earth System Data Science and Remote Sensing is an international, English-taught Master of Science at Leipzig University with a research and methods focus. It trains earth system scientists for a data-rich world, combining earth and environmental science with programming, quantitative methods and remote sensing technology. In the second and third semesters, 40 credits of method modules cover multivariate statistics, geoinformatics and geostatistics, and machine learning and AI, along with optical, radar and lidar remote sensing and spectroscopy. A 10-credit laboratory course gives practical experience, with close links to the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). The programme lasts 4 semesters (120 credits) and starts in the winter semester. It suits graduates in earth, natural, environmental, computer or data science with some statistics and programming background.
