About the programme

Data & Society at TUM in Munich is a full-time, English-taught Master of Science over four semesters with 120 credits, with a start in the winter or the summer semester. Data-driven technologies carry great potential but also serious social risks, so you learn to analyse and shape technological developments in the context of human behaviour, social needs and political conditions. The programme is strongly interdisciplinary and application-oriented, combining engineering, natural science and informatics skills with an understanding of the social, political and ecological effects of new technology. You build skills in Data Perspectives, Human and Society, Regulatory and Sustainable Development, and critically examine data, algorithms and AI-supported decisions, ethics, legal frameworks and sustainable technology use. Graduates are engineers and scientists who can evaluate the opportunities, risks and regulation of modern technologies. Admission is through an aptitude assessment.

Prerequisites

Minimum requirements to apply for a Master’s program at TUM are a recognized undergraduate degree (e.g. a Bachelor’s) from the fields of Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences or Technology and Engineering, and the successful completion of the aptitude assessment procedure. The aptitude assessment allows the TUM school to which you are applying to evaluate your individual talents and motivation for study.
